The Boat People Argument in Eight Words

What boats were ever stopped?

In world history?

  1. I know you’ve banned me, but I can tell you who stopped the boats – Britain during the Mandate in Palestine stoppped and towed back dozens of boats which led to the deaths of thousands of Jews – even many thousand who had survived the death camps.

That is what Labor and Liberals want to do again.

You are absolutely and morally right here Mr Ellis.

  2. Siev X
i have read the book. Probably murder. And it ptobably stopped the boats for a bit.

    • Agree re the book; but I doubt if many refugees read it.

These people were, are and always will be WELL AWARE that going on a trans-ocean journey in a rickety fishing boat is extremely foolish. They have a very good practical understanding of how the world works, an understanding violently beaten into them all their lives.

Problem is the alternative to the boats is living deaths for them and their children in camps in Indonesia or Malaysia.

I still claim the big issue in all this is the sheer bloody inhumanity in Australia’s failure to make REAL efforts to keep these people safe at sea, no matter how foolish or annoying they are.

A real national leader in Australia would I believe take the nation with them in standing up for preventing men, women and children DROWNING while trying to escape insufferable lives to come to this wide brown land.

      A real leader would try.

      (And I’m a Gillard admirer.)

  3. The Morrisson Dilemma in 242 Wordsjavascript:grin(‘’)

Scott Morrisson’s website “I have been active in church life from a young age and today my family and I are members of ShireLive Church at Sutherland. My Christian faith remains the driving force for my family, beliefs and values.
ShireLive Church website ”We believe that the bible is God’s word. It is accurate, authoritative and applicable to our every day lives.
We believe that our eternal destination of either heaven or hell is determined by our response to the Lord Jesus Christ.

    Matthew’s Gospel 25
41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
“They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment.

  4. The devil has been calling himself a Christian for nigh on 2000 years.

By which I mean the title is absolutely meaningless — it covers every belief and none.

As time goes by, it more and more indicates someone who at some level believes they are Jesus Christ, or are fully able to speak in his name.

    • I agree. But perhaps I didn’t make my argument clear. Morrisson has a huge credibility problem – eagerly prosecuting the cruel-to-be-kind tough on border protection, while eagerly proclaiming his strong adherence to a church whose beliefs should lead to his excommunication. Ça va?

  5. Show me 90% of committed Christians and I will show you self-righteous hypocrites.

Not sure about the other 10% – some are wonderful people no doubt.
